Information About Commercial Door Closers

If you own a business, then you may have a door with a commercial door closer. If you don't already have one, then having one installed is a good idea. Commercial door closers can be installed on a variety of doors, and they are great because they allow patrons to enter and leave without needing to close the doors behind them, which many will just not do anyway. The door closers give the person opening it a sense of its weight, then return to opening easily. They allow the door to open freely, and then gently cause the door to slowly close after the patron has safely passed through. The door closer prevents an influx of flying pests from coming in, helps maintain the preferred temperature in the business space which also prevents an uptick of energy bills, and helps control the noise level by blocking out the sounds of traffic and outside noises. When you have a commercial door closer, you need to be aware of possible repair issues, which you can learn about here.

Common issues with commercial door closers

While there are many issues that can come up with door closers, just as there are with just about any type of system for businesses and even homes, there are some that tend to be more common with closers. A few examples of these commonly found ones include:

The wrong closer on a door – A common issue that can leave someone dealing with problems with their commercial door closer can be that they had the wrong type installed in the first place. The type of closer installed will depend on many things, one main consideration being the weight of the door. The springs need to be strong enough to properly close the door, and when the closer isn't strong enough, it won't hold out for long before problems start to happen. In this case, the closer will need to be replaced with the correct one.

There is oil leaking out of the seals – If seals are broken, then it can allow the oil to leak out of those seals, and this can be problematic for the commercial door closer. When the oil levels are negatively affected doe to something like broken seals, or even due to another issue like damaged hardware, then it can cause the door closer to malfunction in a way that causes it to open and/or close too fast, and this can cause an injury to the person who is walking through the door. The door closer will need to be repaired, and the missing amount of oil will need to be replaced.

The door needs adjusting – Many times, a door will have not been adjusted correctly during the installation process. However, normal wear and tear on the door can also eventually cause it to need to be readjusted. When the door closer should be readjusted, there may be a number of issues that can start to happen. The door may stick, it may open or close too quickly, and it may be difficult to lock. A technician can come out and adjust it to correct the issues.
